Myths about Bed Bugs
Bed bugs, or we can say the bugs in bed, are small and flat parasites feed on mammalian and avian blood. Bed bugs were abundantly seen in the US just before World War II. But due to better hygienic conditions and the use of parasites these nasty little pests vanished. Well, in the last past decades these pesky pests have again made a comeback in the entire world. Like the fast spread of bed bugs in the entire world, some misinformation, or we can say myths, about their behavior, biology, etc., like do bed bugs fly, etc., has also spread like a wildfire in the entire world. Well, in this article we will be revealing the facts behind the myths about bed bugs.
Myth # 1:- Bed bugs fly
A very common misconception amongst the people is that they believe a bed bug fly like flies. Well, this is not true. Bed bugs don’t possess wings so they are unable to fly. A bed bug researcher from the University of Minnesota says that they will only fly if you put a blow dryer behind them and they will fly for 1.2m but on their own, these bugs can only crawl a meter per minute.
Myth # 2:- Reproduction of Bed bugs is fast
Well, this statement is truly nothing but a joke because their reproduction is very slow as compared to other insects like a common housefly. A female bed bug is capable of laying only one egg each day but on the other hand, a common housefly lays 500 within 3 – 4 days. Now you can imagine how slow their reproductions. Moreover, bed bug eggs take 10 days to hatch and it takes 5 – 6 more weeks for a baby bed bug to become a fully grown adult.
Myth # 3:- Bed bugs transfer diseases to humans
Well as far as this myth is concerned, bed bug bites will only lead to sleeplessness, anxiety, or some secondary infections and nothing more. So as far as bed bug diseases are concerned there has been no evidence that they have transmitted diseases into humans.
Myth # 4:- Bed bugs travel on human bodies
Bed bugs are not heat lovers. Thus they will neither stick on your hair or skin, like lice and ticks nor do they like to live on your clothes as they are close to the bodily heat. The areas where bed bug infestation may be present could be luggage, backpacks, shoes, beds, mattresses, or stuff that is away from heat.
Myth # 5:- Bed bugs only like to live in mattresses
We can use several names for calling these creepy bed insects alongside bed bugs like pet bugs, suitcase bugs, movie theater bugs, and even train bugs. The reason behind this is that these little insects are not just restricted to a mattress or a bed. Instead, you could find them on chairs, ceilings, railings, suitcases, or any other surface.
Conclusion
These are just 5 myths about the bed bugs there are more than that. Therefore, we would recommend you that if you ever encounter statements like these about this creepy crawlies you should either conduct research on them or just ask a professional about it instead of believing these lame statements blindly.
